say, a dog. go ahead and call me crazy, but i believe i have a point. ok. so compare and contrast a dog to a homo sapien sapien, yes the current evolved human being. the only major difference i would like to mention is the dog's lack of rational capacity. yes reader, dogs are incapable of logical reasoning, or logic, or reason for that matter. the only thing they're capable of is the basic animal instinct - to survive. sex, food, water, shelter. According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, the physiological needs are the only things their brains are capable of processing. disadvantage? you assume too much. you see. if you are not capable of something, then it wouldn't be any problem for you, correct? since dogs do not have the ability to reason, there is nothing for them to reason out. let me make it a little easier. 1. man sees dog. 2. dog sees man. 3. man kicks dog. now, what we have here is a typical scenario in Tondo, manila. dogs are battered at beaten up to be fed upon. now, what happens after the man kicks the dog? the dog barks. the dog's simple brain can only resort of two options. a. bite back b. run and hide the dog, if it chooses to bite back, doesn't think about the consequences of his action. after it bites, the man, if physically fit to do the job, could easily grab the dog and kill it. bad for the dog? i don't think so. or at least it won't think that. as i've said, dogs are not capable of thinking of "why would he kill me?" or "why did he kick me in the first place?" etc etc. so if you can't think of a reason, or better yet, can't reason at all, then it would be much of a problem for you, right? even if it would mean death for the dog. so, they die. their biological processes end. now what? no more. no problem for them. they don't even know what a problem is. sure, all animals (including us) feel pain. but only humans can think about the pain, and ask himself/herself or others why he feels the pain, ultimately even choosing to feel it. only humans make a big problem out of the pain which he or she feels. too bad for our species. ok. let me bring this deeper. here's another scene. 1. man sees another man. 2. that man sees the man who saw him (okay, a bit redundant but at least i got that right) 3. man kicks man. again, another typical scene in tondo, manila, where strangers often get mugged, beaten up, or killed. now, in the case of the man who got kicked, there happens to be a lot of choices in which he can resort too. too many, in fact, that by the time he actually chooses one, he'd be robbed or killed already. a. kick back b. punch back c. do what your judo sensei taught you d. if a weapon is available, use it. e. if none is available, improvise. f. run in a sissy manner. g. run in a manly manner. h. get into an available vehicle. i. pray to God, if Christian. j. pray to Allah, if Muslim. k. pray to Buddha, if Buddhist. l. meditate, trust in Yoga. m. ask the guy to go home, which is very unlikely in tondo. n. if drugs are available, ask for a truce and then score the drugs together. o. if gay, please him. p. call the police. q. call your mom. r. call your dad. s. call the NBI. t. call the army. u. call the navy. v. think about what other things to do... and the worst thing to do... w. think of a reason why he kicked you in the first place. you see? i'm pretty sure there's a lot more reactions for that simple action which caused you pain. and it'll be a headache to list all of them. my point is, reason is our enemy. it gives us problems. it makes us think when we're not really supposed to be thinking. and worse, it makes me write about all this bullshit which i don't think anybody of you cares about. i wish i was a dog then. |
